During the 1999-2000 Rotary year, the Rotary Club of Shreveport made a decision to explore the establishment of a non-profit foundation for use by the Club. This resulted from the realization that the Club could make use of a local charitable entity which would allow donors to make tax-deductible contributions, including simple contributions, honoraria, memorials, bequests and other donations.
Formal Articles and Bylaws were drafted and registered with the State of Louisiana in 2000. The IRS granted the 501(c)3) status on February 23, 2001 (the 87th birthday of Rotary International).
Over the years this Foundation has grown and now supports annual scholarships to local students. Also, through our competitive civic grant process, our Club's Foundation provides funding for area non-profit partners to complete a local project of their own. After receiving a grant the non-profit organization is invited to present a program at one of our Club meetings to give details of their project and their mission.
Since its inception our Foundation has awarded over $400,000 in scholarships and grants.
